    DVD9 drives

Does anyone know whats up with all these new DVD drives that say "Dual Drive", (sony, lite-on all of them make it)

Will those surport the new DVD9s when they come out? or does it mean it only burns those dvds with 1 side on the top and 1 side on the bottom?

These companys make things so hard to understand. And why isn't everyone talking about DVD9, with freaken DVD9 there wouldn't be anymore need for DVD shrinking right?

**I have searched for these topics and i can't seem to find any, but those old posts from 2003 are kinda funny because, none of the Veteran forum members beleived that it will ever be possible to have a DVD9
Quotes: "No they glue 2 layers together, so it will be impossible for a DVD9 to ever be Invented"
    Good times **

I know we still have a month or 2 to wait before any of this stuff is even released, but i just can't wait. I hope its not delayed.

Iam asking this question now, so i can buy a DVD drive early, i just can't wait. I don't know about you guys but iam ready now, RIGHT NOW

*Sorry if anything i have asked has already been posted or answered in the past, Iam not trying to spam I promise. I just wanted to get a few personal questions straight, that i haven't found in the forums*

A dual drive just means it can read DVD + and -.

The first DVD writers will be Philips and Sony. The Sony will read and write to + and - single layer at up to 8x but, only DVD+R Dual Layer at 2.3x.

It does have two layers but the laser just refocuses to write to the second layer (commercial DVD's have the two layers done separately and pressed togther).

thanks, they are sure messing me up with so many terms, DUEL, DUEL Layered, DUEL FORMAT, DUEL Compatiable. Dubble sided

When the real DVD burners come out, no one will know its special.

Not really. A DVD 9 drive is dual layered and a burner which does - and + is dual format.

So the best option is a dual layer/dual format drive. Actually that is a bit of a mouthful.
