    Firmware

I have a Lite-On 451S, and I know that there are firmwares available, but there are lots of warnings about downloading them improperly, and voiding my warranty.

Are there any sites that are better to go to, and any words or wisdom, so I don't damage anything.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The OEM firmwares are best to use, unless you rwarranty is expired and burner won't work.

If your burner is working, then it really isn't worth the risk to get 4 X burning speed with a hacked firmware if you are OEM burning at 2 X. The difference in time saved is only a modest "coffee-break" or "tea-break".

Remember, this is, after all, a "hobby" and the preserving of our investment (for our use and our inheritors use ) of the store-bought DVD movies, via DVD/R back-ups. We therefore should aim at dependability and not at cutting edge speed performance of the burning part of the back-up work.

The DD-5 writing we do today will be sometimes be as vhs-like transfers , when the cheap writeable D-9's become available (unless we do the Deep Analysis of the larger sized movies).

I try to see things as they would be 20 years or so from now., and usually even further

Not sure why but my reading and writing speads apear to have increased significantly since upgrade.
