TMPGenc gives you a free 30 day trial. Open Tmpgenc. From the wizard choose the dvd format you want. Load your avi and follow the wizard. When done Use Tmpgenc DVD Author to create the necessary dvd files. If using win xp or win 2k you can also burn to dvd with Tmpgenc dvd Author, or else use your burning software to burn the files created by TDA.

The mpeg2 file made by TMPGenc should have the video and audio in the same file. Check it with WMP or a player that wil play mpeg2 files. If the audio is there use Tmpgenc dvd author to load your mpeg2 file and create your compliant dvd structure.

nero 6..start smart,,,,dvd,,photo and vidio,,make your own dvd,,
make dvd,,dvd vidio,,it should see your avi file and make a dvd movie from it ..i think those are the steps,,actually prety easy to use GUI..dont need to jump thru hoops and use a lot of cryptic
unfriendly programs ,,and gets the job done nicely..

that doesnt work. it takes you to nero6 to burn a dvd video where only vob files are allowed.

As Tigerman suggested, you need to author your MPEG-2 into DVD file structure (VOB, IFO, etc.), so you need an authoring program like TMPGEnc DVD Author. Or, if you want to do more complex menus on your DVD, I suggest giving DVDLab a try.

                Todd,,,it does work...i did that..
my instructions werent to clear i know.
soon i am going to do it again and make carefull notes..
                i use nero 6..
i took a 10 second AVI,let nero6 make it into a movie, and compiled it into ,, at the front of, as a joke, another movie i was backing up for somebody..
nero6 will make the.VOB file AND the.BUP file AND the.IFO file needed..then use nero recode or dvdshrink to put it on a disk..

AVI TO DVD using Nero 6

                  open start smart.
                  open applications\vision express.
                  choose make dvd\dvd vidio.
                  add vidio files.
                  browse to .avi file.
highlite file you want and "open"
                  click "next"
                  next again
                  next again
                  choose burn to-your burner
                  OR
write to hard disk ( you can see your project and test in a software player first by doing this )
then browse to a folder to save project to.
                  highlite folder and "ok"
you will see where destination folder is shown.
                  now "write"
when done you will find in your saved folder a " VIDIO_TS"
sub folder that has all the .IFO,.BUP,.VOB files needed.
                  test with powerdvd .
i make it easy and use "dvdshrink" to preview and burn.
seems like a lot to do but is really easier than it looks.
maybe in "explorer" ,folder view should be set to "view all files".?
maybe somebody can rewrite this so it will be easier to understand ?
                  or make a "guide" ??

                    Need help

I got the last step for ner thanks, but the files that come out are way too big, ie, my 280 meg, takes up like 1.2 gig, so i can only fit 3 of those avi files in, any way i can change it so i can fit at least 10 epidsodes in?

If you have full DVD file structure, then trying using DVD Shrink.
