Pioneer A103 only works when it wants to!

    Hi all,

This one is driving me crazy. Typical scenario: Want to burn something either to DVD or CD. Open up Nero6, load up what I want and put disc in drive. Problems start when I click the burn button. Everything just stops. Sometimes, it might burst into life after about 3 minutes, other times I have to restart the PC.

Now I am convinced it is not a software problem as this seems to happen with ever bit of software I have used. It must be either a Windows XP or DVD writer problem, but what is it?

Any help would be great. I have check the IDE settings etc. Also it will only burn (if it gets that far) if I have Nero set to 'Track-at-once' when writing. 'Disc-at-once' eventually comes up with an error??

    Thank you so much,

    James

Old (and good) method is physically un-install the burner. turn on rig., let it run 10 minutes or so, turn off rig, re-install burner, turn on rig, let windows automatically install (or you do so), check IDE chain, UDMA, etc., re-boot rig, everything should be alright.

If NOT, then : It is sometimes faster, more accurate and easier to :

Do a O.S. re-install (without burner installed), do the windows updates (S.P.'s, etc.), re-boot until all updates installed., re-boot, then turn rig off, install burner, etc..

Download DVDDecrypter v. 3.1.9.0, dvdshrink, IMDG Tools CLQASSIC v. 0.91.1 and try to do a 'Shrink/burn (CLASSIC will automatically burn with DVDDecrypter). If this works, why change burning software? They are freeware
    Rig :

    P - 4 @ 1.7 Ghz, 768 mb (133) Ram, Intel 845 chipset M'board, Seagate 60 Gig., 5400 rpsm hdd, Maxtor 40 Gig. 7200 rpm hdd, Hauppauge 880 pvr card, etc.. O.S. - XP Home Edition.
