Is it possible to back them up on the harddisk at first, and then later on burn down on a DVD-r? And if, how and with what?

Both DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter can back up to your hard drive, either as a VIDEO_TS directory structure on an ISO file. At that point, when you get some more blanks, you can use Nero to burn the files onto blanks.

I use this method to dump DVDs onto my HTPC.
    -= P4/2.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 700 GB HD
    -= GeForceFX 5600, Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro

When you click on backup in Shrink 3.1.7 beta 5, you get the option of either the hard disk or a ISO image.

Then use either Nero in DVD Video mode to burn the video_ts folder, or DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO image in ISO write mode.

That's it. You have to select ISO or hard disk as the target device.

BTW, the final 3.1.7 is out now as well.

I would just use DVD Decrypter. It should be set in file mode as standard. Just put the disc in, it will recognise it, then select destination folder and hit the big green button.
