"Should I be able to hear the sound during the conversion? Did I get too impatient and stop the conversion too soon?"

I would do a "Test" output-meaning start encoding in TMPGEnc and let it run for about 3 minutes or so then stop it and check your mpeg file to see if the video and audio output is OK with Windows Media Player or similar program.

      I GOT SOUND!!!!!

      Thank you so much.

I followed the instructions for demuxing and saved the audio file as an mp2, and that wouldn't work, then MP3 and that wouldn't work. Finally decided to try a wav and that is giving me sound in Windows Mediaplayer.

I have been trying to fix this for a month and haven't been able to. Thanks for the help with virtualdubmod. That's what did the trick.

      Helen

I have recently done this for the first time using Cucusoft's AVI to DVD Converter, then IfoEdit to author it, then Nero to burn it (guide for his method can be found here: AVI-to-DVD Conversion Guide). The first step did take quite a long time (but it was one of those processes that I was able to start and then walk away)...but, in the end, the result couldn't have been any better. I am fairly new to DVD burning...and relatively speaking, this was not very complicated at all!
