burning dvd's on external pioneer 106 (problems)

I am using nero,6303,I am getting too many coasters.Checked the DMA and it is all ok.Have anybody got any ideas,nero starts lead in,then fails with SCSI command aborted.I reinstalled nero and it is still the same.I have also updated my chipset,firmware 1.07and i'm running out of ideas.The 106 is in usb 2 case and my pc is usb 2. SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!

What burn speed's are you using (2x4x8x?).

What media/blanks are you using (-r's+r's etc..?),and who manufacturered them?.

What are you trying to burn? (Shrinked DVD's?)

Too many variables to answer yet-more info needed.

I am burning 2x & 4x using ritek grade a media +r,-r.

I have used dvd shrink 3.17 & Shrinked DVD's.

Sometimes it completes a burn but this is very random

Have you got other program's like Roxio also installed on your computer?
There have been conflict issue's that were solved by deleting Roxio or other burning software that conflicted with Nero! (it worked for me).

Also as you may know-use the slowest burn speed for heavily compressed DVD's with Nero (2x).
Even though burner's are rated at 4x-the slower the burning speed the better the chance of completed disc's (I know 2x sucks when you have 4x capability).

The only disc's I burn at 4x-are disc's that are not compressed by Nero(100%)-or smaller files under 4.3 gig's-anything over I use 2x.

Thanks for your feedback,I only use 2x now because when I was burning at 4x they wouldn't play.

I only got nero on my pc,I sent the burner back and they said it was fine.It is definately something in my pc,but I don't Know what.

May not be your PC either.

As I said "Shrinked" files will not burn at 4x on my burner either-without high failure rate.

It's not the burner's fault or my PC-It's the file size....too big, or something in the shrinking process.

Realize that it should burn at 4x, but reality sucks when it comes to this new format.
Maybe 8x burner's will work at 4x with "Shrinked" DVD's

I use 2x for all my "Shrinked" DVD's .....unless I know that NO compression was used in the shrinking process.

Not Shrink's fault either-I'm just happy to able to backup....regardless the speed.

Thanks for the info,I've tried burning cd's and it still fails with the external (pioneer 106) burner,but burns cd's fine on the built in Toshiba dvd-rom cdr drive.I think its sometime to do with the USB drivers.

Sorry can't help-Hopefully other's can.

Last thought; Some version's of Nero are said to have buggggs (I think I read).

Can you try a different version of Nero?
My version of Nero is-"Express 6"- I believe.
Maybe a post about conflict's with Nero may help???

It took me awhile before I got all the buggs out of my setup,and could burn as I wanted too-

Pioneer 106

Hello,
I am a newbie at burning and was have the same problem you are having with a Pioneer 106 internal burner. Depending on media I used, I had a high failure rate on burns at all speeds. I returned the drive and bought a Sony 5DRU-530A internal to replace it. Since then I have had no problems burning to any media. The drive is capable of 8x +r but I have yet to try it at that speed. It works great at 4x & 2x. I like it so much, I bought a Sony DRX-530UL external drive to use in place of my U50A that came in my laptop. I know this doesn't help much, but it must be a compatibility problem with your drive or something is wrong with the drive.
