Sony DRU-530A

I just purchsed a DVD Burner however Im unable to get any software to burn at 8X, I have purchased the proper media, and downloaded the lastest firmware from Sony 2.0 but still no luck. I even switched the drives making the sony the master and the cd rom the slave. I also activated DMA mode under device manager. Any suggestions out there would be appreciated. Sony Support gave me some generic response.
