    Help Please!

I bought an IOMagic DVD burner the dual format 8x rewritable internal drive. I am running XP Professional. The drive came with Pinnacle software which I can't get to load every time I click on create disc the the timer starts working then stops without going to the next page. I was told to uninstall the software and also to free up some space on my hard drive, which I now have about 17gb free. It still doesn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've tried downloading something called IFO Edit and attempted to use that but when I try to get a movie off my hard drive it says that it found no valid elementary stream file to multiplex. I want to throw the computer out the window! When I bought the hard drive I asked the salesman if all I had to do was install the drive and start burning movies he said yes. Fellas all I want to do is burn some movies off my hard drive onto DVD to play in my home dvd players and work my way up to saving some old home movies to dvd. What am I doing wrong???????????????????? P.S. Most of the movies are in either MPEG format or AVI format with a little asf and rm thrown in.

" now have about 17gb free."

When you consider how much of that "free space" may actually be reserved for by the Windows swap file, you probably actually have from 5-10Gb of true free space. If you're going to work with DVDs, you really should purchase an additional larger hard drive...

Use DVD Shrink for compressing, and converting your source DVD,and Nero to burn.

It's not your computer, but bogus program's you are using.

      Good Luck

Thanks I'll try it, but what bogus programs are you talking about?

Judging from the Pinnacle website and my own experience of it (came with my burner too) it's not the most reliable, easy to use application I've come across.
Not sure about your rm and asf. Maybe they can convert to mpeg2 in TMPGEnc Plus but once you get to mpeg2 TMPGEnc DVD Author (different program) is my personal choice.
Try them both for a limited free trial.
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!
