    windows freezing

having some problems with this new firewire burner that i purchased. i'm running win 98 se and bought a generic dvd+r 2.4x burner for real cheap, no drivers were included, the company says that its plug n play with all the windows version, so no drivers needed. windows says its a DVD+RW RW8160.

well, i got the dvd burner installed on the computer, and i can burn cd-r and dvds (most of the time).

    problem list:
    1. when trying to read cds/cd-r/dvd/dvd+r/ any cd media, windows freezes for 10 secs or so before trying to read the cd media when it is initially inserted.

    2. dvd burner will try, but will not read any cd/ music cd/cd-r (even cd-rs that i just burnt on it), only dvd media, and dvd movies are recognized and accessible.

    3. there are times when i try to read the cd-r, the dvd burner stops to function unless i reboot again.

well, thats the laundry list, i think thats it, any help would be appreciated. could it be a connection problem? dvd burner itself? i read some stuff about dma? but its connected to firewire. i updated everything from win undate. i'm lost.

    thanks in advance

do you ever think about chancing your OS to something prepared for DVDs and CDRs like 2k or XP? Win98 have a bad memory management and slow processing for digital devices.

i expirienced some problems like no recognition and freezes according to Bad midia in XP, after changing the midia brand to RITEK 'no more trouble' ....
