    DVD Shrink & Roxio 6

I recetnly burned some of my home made movies of my family to a DVD. When i saw that the DVD burned succesfully, and played fine...I deleted the original MPEG videos off my hard drive.

Here is where my problem is...I now want to make extra copies for the rest of my family.....and I am having alot of headaches...

When DVD shrink tries to read the disc (DVD), it is telling me that it has encountered and error and can not continue....

I originally used roxio to create the DVD, and, now I am starting to think that Roxio is not burning a standard format DVD.

Is there any type of utility that i can download that can make DVD shrink recognize that roxio's disc is in fact a DVD??

I wish I didnt use roxio, because, my familys dvd players play many burned DVD's that I have created, but, some of the players do not like Roxio discs.

I just want to get this converted to a more compatable format.

    Any Ideas??

You need Nero to "re" burn a disc.

Use the "make data disc" function on Nero, and you should have no problem duplicating a disc you've already made.

That being said....Roxio and Nero don't like each other-so wipe Roxio off your computer B/4 you download/install Nero.

    Good Luck

I think Gary would be better sticking with Roxio 6, as he could use "Disc Copier" in that program. After using shrink to backup dvds, burning with copytodvd on DVD RW's, I always use Roxio Disc Copier and never had a failure yet. (done around 50 copies of movies) Roxio also has the data copying facility within the Easy Creator Program. Roxio is not fantastic I know, and Nero hates it, and also hates my pc in general, so I got rid.

Actually, I do appreciate all of your replies...but...I am getting kind of frightened of using Roxio. Please domt misunderstand me, Roxio is a good, user friendly program, but, it seems that it does not make a standard DVD to well..

I did a test using my camcorder again. I got some mpeg files, this time I loaded them into pinacle 9, and, once again, after the DVD was burnt and ready to play in a standard dvd player....DVD Shrink could not read them..this has to be one of the strangest things I have ever come accross. Does anyone know why this may be happening?

DVD Shrink is telling me it can not open the disc due to an "Invalid DVD navigation structure"

I may be misunderstanding your process, but why are you using Shrink in the first place?

I only use Shrink to decrypt, and backup source DVD's.

If I am creating a DVD from VHS (or in your case camcorder) I use Pinnacle to capture/transfer the video onto my hard drive, and then the file "must" be converted to a format that Nero (or Roxio) can burn.
For this second step I use TMPGEnc (authoring program),and after the file is converted-it can then be burnt to a DVD.

This is my two step process which does not need DVD Shrink at all (unless the file created is too big-then it's a three step process).

            Hope this helps

              Roxio and Shrink

I also am confused now as I didnt even know one could use Shrink for anything other than decrypting and backing up dvd's. How you shrunk your mpegs with shrink I dont know. I only shrink mpgs and avi's with divx2dvd program. I dont have a camcorder but I believe divx2dvd has a capture section in it.

In my experience, having Nero and Pinnacle on the same pc is asking for disaster. I had to uninstall everything due to Pinnacle and then went back to Roxio in the end. As far as I know the only possible problem with Roxio is after you eject any files you have dragged as you have to check a box to say it can be used in any pc that doesnt have the Roxio Drag to Disc. I have made stacks of discs and all have been copied with Roxio Disc Copier. They are definitely standard dvd and play on anything, including a Sony Playstation (maybe things are different for me being in the U.K. but I doubt it). If you get one of the dvd's back from your rellies I can assure you if it played okay on their player, you can copy it with Roxio Disc copier as it is just a straight forward copy and you dont need shrink!!.

Sorry I cant be of any help for you.

I appreciate everyone replies..I guess the way I was looking at all of this has been wrong.....see...I was always under the impression that if DVD shrink can not read the DVD (Even though I really dont need shrink to make the copies) then , it was NOT a standard DVD. I was using DVD shrink as the test (for less of a better name).

Bottom line - I figured if DVD shrink could not read a home-made DVD I made, then, it was not being burnt (created) to a DVD standard.

I am quite the goof huh?

                lol

                Thanks again Guys and Girls.

                  Roxio and Shrink

Glad you got yourself sorted out. So presumably you are going to just do straight copies as extras for the rest of your family.
We all do goofy things, me in particular, but I put it down to age. My best goof of all, was unknowingly putting the clear plastic disc in with a dvd and wondering why my writer was making a terrible noise and not working. Was about to go to the expense of getting pc guy in and then found on another forum under "noisey writers" that even the experts all do it, plus some had even put the foam ring in as well!!!!! So with torch, plus tweezers, fixed it!!
My second goof was only discovered yesterday in this forum, I used re-author to shrink a movie that had quite a few subtitles in it, so any friends watching my "creation" hopefully understand Japanese!!!! That's the good thing about these forums and everyone wants to help.
                  Regards

DVD Shrink/Nero/Pinnacle are a match made in heaven of my computer-

Roxio was the great corrupter for me-

As always other configuration's may work better for other's.

                      ok Guys (And Girl(s))

                      Now I really need help...

I dont mean to get off topic here, but, after I figured my problem was solved, I was cleaning up around my computer desk..and..when I stood up...my knee went directly into my DVD burner (I mean...it hit it hard)...

It was bruning a dvd when this happened...needless to say...the disc could not finishe burning..so, I put a fresh blank in it.,...now it wont burn at all..it gets to about 26% and just freezes on me....this is 100% my fault for being carelsee...

I went to staples and bought a new burner......(as a matter of fact, the same exact one)....I took it home, hooked it up...and it is still doing the same thing....so...I was thinking maybe by coincidence, I bought a defective one, so, I went to staples again....got the same exact make and model....hooked it up...it is still doing the same thing..getting to about 26% and freezing...

I know that the software I have is compatable because it has always worked before..it is strange..the light on the burner usually flashes a steady orange....Now , it is flashing orange, then a solid green, orange, then a solid green....(over and over)

It is like the DVD burner can not read the blank. When i try to burn a DVD video disc through Nero, it seems that the buffer can not go to 95 or 96%..(I think it is the buffer..it is the small progress bar on the bottom)...do you think maybe when I bumped my tower (that hard) that I may have messed up some data on my HDD? I am thinking about reformatiing my hard drive and reinstalling everything on it....do you think that will help.

Please let me know what you think. I just made my problem worse.

                      Gary

                        Man thats sad.

Sounds like it ain't the burner, but either someting with your hard drive OR what about a "loose cable"????

Check all your connection's if possible.
Assume you did that, but check everything if you haven't already.

Did you try "Shrinking" a different source disc. Maybe the one you were working on got corrupted with the bump, and trying a different original download will tell.

Yeah...I tried 3 different ones so far...

I am reformatting now...I hope this works....The computer itself is all working fine..I think I may have corrupted some data somwhere...this is bad

                          Thanks for the reply

Well..just to give everyone an update. i reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled windows and all of my applications, and, all is well...

that is odd. Does anyone know what could have happened when I bumped it like that? Damaged data? damaged drivers??? oh well..just curious. I probably didnt even need a new burner...lol

It has been a long day.

Thanks for all of your help.
