Re-read my post "Carefully" regarding obtaining "File Information" using VDM.

I have the screenshot but don't have anywhere to post it. If you'll send your e-mail address to ram16@cox.net I can forward it to you. BTW, I asked a friend at work today about VDM and he said it was EXTREMELY slow. Is that true?

You should be able to attach it to your post here.

The mpeg filter is a little slower than if you were working with an AVI/Divx/Xvid file, but not by much.

I thought so too but could not find a way of attaching a file. BTW, I've never used the other procedure you mention so I have no frame of reference.

Yup, screenshot is there. Audio looks ok at 48kHz and screen size is ok for NTSC at 720 x 480 but we need the spec that tells us about codecs. "File Information" I believe shows this, or G Spot freeware will do it.

I guess I'm not sure what you're waiting for. I posted the screenshot requested from VDM and it has all the information about video so what's missing?

                            Well, yes and no

I have never seen empty codec boxes before. I've not run a DVD compliant mpeg2 stream in G Spot so I can't comment on this. It implies it is DVD compliant if I'm reading it correctly and should therefore run TMPGenc DVD Author. Since it doesn't, I'm beginning to think you're right about your capture device making a hybrid file type.
What device is this and what software are you using for capturing?

Will VirtualDubMod recognise your hardware? This can be used for capturing maybe.

DVD Lab might also be worth a look at.

I have no idea what VDM will do. How would anybody know? There are no wizards or tutorials of any kind. At the moment it's a solution without a problem. I returned my capture device to Fry's and bought another. So far it doesn't work either. It's a Leadtek product so I have a little more faith in it than the no-name device I just returned. I'll let you know if it ever works. I don't know why this has to be so difficult. Why doesn't somebody make some GOOD single step software? There has to be millions of people with old VHS tapes they'd like on DVDs. They all advertise how simple it is and it's all BS.

Yes it is. I tried it msyelf with unsatisfactory results (lip sync out with perfect video quality or perfect lip sync with rubbish video quality). I was trying to record of a TV card.

I have heard from others who said the same.

The easiest but costly way is a DVD "VCR replacement" Recorder. I have a Panasonic HS2 with a Hard disk. I just attach a VCR and press record.
