    Need some help please.(Backup help)

Can someone tell me what steps should I take to ensure that my stand-alone player will play my backup dvds? I have a yamasaki player, which has played backups before but they were backups I borrowed so I don’t know the software that created them. Right now I have dvd shrink and clonedvd2 and I am about to purchase a dvd burner so I just want to cover all the bases. I also tried this: I made a copy of Crouching Tiger with both shrink and clone2 however I used vobsplitter to split the main movie vobs to just small parts so that I could put all files on a cd-rw to test. I placed the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder containing the files on the cd-rw. When I check it in my computer it read it like a DVD, however my stand-alone player said UNKNOWN DISK. But it reads cd-rw disks. Can anyone tell me why did that happen because I am really worried know that when I make backups with shrink or clone my stand-alone will not play them.

    Thank you.

"Can anyone tell me why did that happen"

Because very few standalone DVD players can play DVD files from a CD...

since it has played DVD-Rs before will it play them regardless of the software I use to back-up?

        Thanks.

providing the software produces a DVD-compliant disk with the VIDEO_TS folder containing your files and an empty AUDIO_TS folder and the brand of media works with your player (see Setarip's link) you should be ok.
