    VOB to MPG

    Hi there

I'm a newbie.. So I'm sorry if my question is redundant. I was curious of how to turn VOB files into MPEG's.. I've already ripped the DVD & stuff with DVD Decrypter & used DVD Shrink to make the files smaller... Is there any free programs that'd allow me to make VOB files into MPEG's?... If so, please tell me what it's called, if not, what would you suggest I use?... I've never done this before! lol

I'm also interested in putting subtitles & stuff like that in the mpeg... Again, I'm very sorry if my questions are redundant. If you're wondering what kind of video it is, it's an instructional belly dance video I'm working on... So I just need a little help... lol

Well, I think that about does it. If you need any additional information from me, feel free to ask.

    Best Wishes,

Oh yes... Also.. I tried to rename a .VOB file to .MPG & it didn't work. Windows Media Player said there was a "catastrophic error" lol

"Is there any free programs that'd allow me to make VOB files into MPEG's?"

There is a free program called "VOBEdit", but I believe it will only "Demux" the .m2v file (silent video) out of the VOB, and a separate audio stream. "TMPGEnc" or "TMPGEnc Plus" has an "Mpeg Tools" feature that will allow you to "De-multiplex" the video and audio streams out of the VOB, and "Multiplex" them back to form a "New" complete mpeg file. The program has a 30-day fully functional trial period, so after that time it's not free.

        Hi there

I read on another message board that TMPGEnc is junk & people have tons of problems with it... Is that true?.... Also, I downloaded VOB Edit, IFO Edit, DVD Shrink 3.1 & DVD Decrypter... I also downloaded Mpeg2cut (but i don't think i need that)... And... I already did the VOB Edit thing... Now I dunno what I'm supposed to do from there... lol (yes, i am blonde. cut me some slack here.. hahaha j/k) So... Anyone wanna help me?...

Thanks for your tips, ormonde.. I appreciate them!

TMPG DVD Author will do the job.
if you have it, create a new project, add DVD video instead of add file. select the folder with all your vobs,. then do a little chapter editing (if you wish) and either output as an mpeg or burn as a new dvd.

          good luck

i just downloaded DVD2AVI From Here

its great and easy to use. though it did seperate the video from the audio which i then had re do through Vdub. didnt find anyway around this. but it made a great 780mb avi file out of a 6gig DVD

                        To Reiss:

I believe it was the original poster's intent to convert a VOB file(s) into an mpeg format, not convert a DVD to Divx, although the link you provided for doing so is a good method.

okie dokie... here's the deal with what i'm doing....

i am making a website about belly dancing... the video is going to be cut up into clips of moves that people can view on the website. so, i must have the vob files made into either an mpeg or an avi, because they're going to be posted on my website for download. it's an instructional thing... so i don't need a divx, i need an mpeg or an avi.... if you can tell me how to work the dvd2avi thingie, that'd be cool.. if not, it's okay.. i just need someone to help me with this & i won't bug you anymore... lol but they have to be in either mpeg or avi format. - i'm just clueless on how to do this stuff... i dunno wtf i'm doing... lol i've never done this before. so again, i'm very sorry for the trouble & i appreciate your patience with me.

                          best wishes,

                            To otsikheta:

I really don't think that you would want to have an "uncompressed" AVI file residing on your website as the filesize for even a 10 minute or so video would be enormously huge, and certainly not suitable for downloading. When you say "so i don't need a divx", I think in this case a "Divx AVI" (compressed) would actually be ideal for downloading, so following the guide that user "Reiss" suggested would be worth considering. Mpeg would also still be a good choice for the web too.

                              hi.. thanks for your response…..

i’m not going to lie to you… i’m getting very agitated. don't people need a divx player or something like that to see the video if it's made that way?... i'm not really concerned about the size of the file, just the quality. i have my own server, well… am renting one… so it's not really a problem for me.. i just want to make sure it's a very good quality video on there. i need the video is avi or mpeg format so i can edit the dumb thing & put it on my friggin website… that’s all I’m trying to do here…. and I’m getting nowhere… so your answer was a bit frustrating, because you said an mpeg would also be a good choice... yes... i realize that… that’s why i wanted to know how to make an mpeg to begin with, but no one really gave me any help with that… so... i'm getting irritated... lol what do i have to do to make an mpeg?… what exact software do i need (free or paid) & where can i find a step-by-step tutorial on how to do what i'm wanting to do, and also, how do i make an avi, what exact software do i need for that (free or paid) & where can i find a step-by-step tutorial on how to do that?…. i’ve never done this video crap on the computer before & frankly it’s beginning to just really piss me off. also… since i’m not really getting anywhere here, do you have any idea where i can go to get some help? cuz this is just making me go in circles.... i'm getting nowhere & i am frustrated about it.
