    This might be a dumb question but did you try cleaning them before inserting your backups in your player?

        Did they used to play ok on the standalone?
        Do they play ok on the PC?
        Check brand of media on www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

            If I understand correctly the "copied" dvds played fine at one time but now they skip? Does the skipping take place at the start of the movie or near the end of the dvd? Which brand of media do/are you using?

                Do you use labels?
                Have you checked your brand against all the players you've tried?

                  no lables and other dvd's work fine on same media.
                  just started hapening recently, beggining to suspect not enough memory on computer causing slow encoding (and small pauses) i am thinking of upgrading and try again.
                  using 512 ddr pc2700.
                  does this sound like a possable cause.

                    what firmware version are you running?
                    your RAM sounds OK but are you running other tasks?

                      i have a home network and use resorces from both computers, My son my have been on-line games in his room when the disc's were recording, i will ask him (i will cut off resorce sharing and see if this make a differance). I didn't think of this until now.
