give Verbatim a media analisys using DVDINFO to see if they aren't fake or your drive is capable of writing in the expected speed (4x)

guilhas, what is DVDINFO? I am not that great on computers so maybe you can elaborate. Also, i have noticed lately that a lot of the discs i burn freeze and lock up at the end of the movie. I burned over 200 dvd's without a glitch, so it's a bummer to be having difficulty now.

Go back to the brand of media you were using successfully. Your burner may not like your current choice.

This app should also tell you the real maker of your discs.

I downloaded dvd identifier and the verbatim discs are made by Mitsubishi chemical corp.
              Unrestricted use
              1x,2x and 4x speeds
              Capacity is 4.71GB

Don't know what all this means, but what used to take 30 mins. is now taking over an hour and a half. I will go back to Memorex discs and see what happens.

That sure seems like the current media is not a good match (MCC is good media though), take one of the 200 good ones you burned and run it trough Identifier... who made those?

You might also check your IDE channels in Device Manager and see if DMA is enabled... that may have something to do with the extra time.

One of my dma settings was set to PIO, so i switched it to DMA. I will see what happens.
