sound problems...

I have burned a dozen or so DVD movies from video files (.avi, .mpg, .wmv) and in every case I have gotten a delay problem with the audio. It will 'stutter' ocassionally for a second or two - both video and audio, then it will play normally for several minutes or even up to an hour or so - but with the sound delayed by a fraction of a second. Then it 'stutters' again, both video and audio, and the delay is slightly longer. If I start over, such as at the beginning of a chapter later in the movie, it starts out in synch, and then quickly will hit the 'stutter' and then gets out of synch again.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I am sure it isn't my hardware, as I have backed up direct copies of DVD's with no problems, this only happens when I make a DVD from a movie on my hard drive.

check your soundcard. Try another soundcard if u have, you should even see in Control Panel witch device is being used as default and how is setted the hardware aceleration.
The On-Board soundcards aren't the best option for multimidia editing/converting due to its fast processing against the on-board soundcard shared resources.

Thanks for the response; and sorry I wasn't clear on that. The problem does happen with playback on my machine, but also with playback on standalone DVD players; so it is in the burning process that it is getting the problem I think, not in the playback.

However, if I am misunderstanding you, and the soundcard affects burning of the DVD as well, I have a kindof old Creative Soundblaster Audigy 5.1 sound card - I think it is 2 years old or so; not the greatest but I have never had any problems with it in any other application.

The soundblaster is my only sound card, and it is being used; I have the cheesey on-board sound disabled in the BIOS. Hardware acceleration is set to full.
