    Slow burning dru-510a, out of ideas, please help

    The Problem
    I can only burn at 2x MAX
    my sony is setup as the slave on my secondary IDE channel
    my hard drives are off the primary ide channel, system as master and data as slave

    The Goods
    OS: XP pro
    mobo: biostar m7ncd-A02
    burner: sony dru 510a
    firmware: 1.1a
    media: ritek g04 4x dvd-r
    ripping: dvd shrink 3.1.7.6
    burning: nero 6.3.1.17
    Dvd Decrypter 3.2.3.0
    aspi layer: force aspi 117
    using adaptec aspichk.exe:

    ASPI32.SYS
    WOWPOST.EXE
    WINASPI.DLL
    WNASPI32.DLL
    /\/\/\/\
    all version 4.6 (1021)

    ide driver: nvidia Nforce MCP2 Ide controller version 6.1.2600.0

        Is this happening with one make of disc? Have you tried other makes. Could be the IDE driver delete it and re boot, Windows will install native driver.Nvida cause problems for some people.
        If that doesn't work try burner as master.

          i switched the burner to master
          ive also tried the uninstall ide driver trick
          nothing
          as far as the media, this is the only 4x media ive tried, but have read of others having no problems burning at 4x on the g04's

            If it only offers 2x in Nero Before you burn its down to firmware try different media.

              nero and dvddecryter both say that its a 4x burn, but always takes 30mins and some odd seconds

              burning with dvddecryter the after burn log says max 2.0x and avg 1.9x

              in decrypter i tried switching the mode under I/O from "SPTI-Microsoft" to any one of the others; none worked except the "SPTI-microsoft" one

                changed to Panasonic Prodisc


                burns at 4x now ~15mins!!!!!
