    NEC 2510a 8X burns at 4x

Here we go again, first I had problems with a NUTECH ddw082, so I flashed it backwards and corrected the problems.

But now I have this just bought NEC ND 2510A Dual 8X-+ and its burning at 4x with Ritek Ridata G05 8X DVD-R blanks.

So what could be the deal?

    Athlon64 3000+
    MSI K8T NEO m/b
    1GB Ram
    120GB SATA
    250GB UATA

    Thanks,

    Gerry

Just thought of something, maybe I should try other media?

I checked the Nero Info Tools and under read/write speed on the drive it stated 4X.

This is down to the firmware of the writer.Go to cdfreaks.com check out the NEC forum there will probably be a hacked firmware to allow 8x on these disc's.

Well I have since bought another burner, just for **its and giggles, it is the Lite On SOHW-832S 8X Dual Layer DVD-/+R. And to be honest out of the box it is the only one that will burn at 8X.

        Burnin with Ritek 8X Medium:

        NU TECH DDW 082: Max burn 6X (f/w 373)
NEC ND 2510A: Max burn 4X
Lite On 832S: Max burn 8X

        Go Figure...

I just checked out CD freaks and there is no f/w update for the 2510A. There is one for the Lite On but what for?

I just found this one @cdfreaks
          Windows flash http://herrie.rpc1.org/downloads/2k5107v2b5dl.rar
          Dos flash

I used the windows flash no probs. It allows 8x on a lot of media, rip lock region free and bitseting to DVD-ROM.
          Happy days.

Just tried opening file, and it says it is for 2500, nothing on 2510. Is that ok?

Alright, that worked. Flashed and now says write supported at 8X, thanks for the help.
