    Subtitles automatically play on standalone

I've made a few copies of DVD's with no problems, but the last two times I've tried, subtitles automatically appear when I try to play them in my Toshiba standalone DVD player. No matter what I do with the settings on the disk menu or the DVD player, they always appear.

Is this a common newbie problem or am I doing something dreadfully wrong?

I tested it with WinDVD before I burned and it was fine, so I'm a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to depend on how your ripping software (You didn't say which software you're using) interprets various data in the DVD structure.

It's certainly easy enough to turn off the subtitles - either from the DVD's menu or by using your standalone player's remote control...
