"it worked -on an imation discs"

If you have had success using the "Imation" media, just stick with that.

Check to see if you can exchange or return the memorex disks.

I contacted Lite- on tech support.
asked for a firm wear update for my drive, said there wasen't one,
he asked what kind of media i was having trouble with
upon finding out that it was memorex dvd + r.
              he said that
lite-on dvd burners were incompatable with memorex media -perhaps because of the dies they use.
              any thoughts...?

                "any thoughts...?"

I would not engage in needless speculation when you should just stick with the media that works for you. In your case, it’s the "Imation" disks.
