    to fil

    thanks for the fast reply

i did everything you said,it works now for tdk +r, but still the same for the maxell -r ,i upgraded the firmware. and everything

do you think its possible when nero did the update it somehow tok away the compatable with maxell -r

    thanks again for the help

if it would help i would upload the data log file for nero.

should i try a diffrent program to see if its nero.

if so what would be a good (free) program to try that wouldnt conflict with nero

      Hi there Mg3

      Hmmm?!

It would perhaps be a good idea to follow the steps for uninstalling/Reeinstalling Nero 6 described a few posts earlier but instead of updating it to the last version you should stick to the version that didnt give you any problems.

You should check if when you updated the firmware, sometimes the drive changes into PIO mode instead of DMA.

Updating the IDE ATA/ATAPI controler drivers should also be considered.

You can find out by going to your System properties>>device manager>>IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers>>Secondary channel tab.
On mine my bios chooses the mode but it is set to Ultra DMA2 - Ultra 33 and the driver versions wilst your there.

This is all new to me and that is what I would do, but you ask for a free program to see if it is Nero or the burner so try this one:

I send you to the Q&A's section so that you read that first B4 making the decision to download that and give it a try.

How knows if this update may have just currupted some files and a re-run of the update file could fix it but as for taking support away, mmmm I would ask you to submit this to Nero support, as I am only familiar with some aspects of Nero in general (a little savvy).

You may wanna try a different serial

This Topic is mainly for Nero Q&A's if you try this new CDBurnerXP Pro I no nothing about it, never tried it, dont wanna.

      Hope this helps my friend

      Let me Know

        Hi Fil,

According to the logfile, the drive is still in DMA mode.

I have a feeling that the actual drive is at fault. I called LG service and they suggested I bring it back under warranty. No questions asked. Perhaps they are having problems with the GSA-4081B.

        Cheers,

        Dave

          Hi there MINIMOKE.

If you are going to return the drive and it's under warranty I think that you are intitled to get an exchange or refund if the drive is faulty/not fit for purpose. I dont think that you are obliged to have it repaired because once you do you lose the right the exchange.

They may push the repair and the inconvinience is then on you (You will be left without a drive until this is done)

Check this out B4, if your interested.

None the less let us now.

            Hi FIL,

Thanks for your concern. LG are good regarding customer service, with a 2 year replacement with same or better policy.

I'm now the owner of a 4120B which is their latest dual layer burner (retailed for half what I paid for the 4081B !!).

I'll tell you how I go with it.

            Cheers,

            Dave

Hi there Mg3. (This is an update on possible causes)

There are certain associated problems with SCSI errors some of the causes are:

Cables are known to cause this: loose cables, damaged cables, loose power connectors, etc.

Defective recorders are known to cause this. Test with another demo software to rule out software as the cause. If two software programs have the same symptom, your recorder may need service.

If the drive is being polled by another software's driver, it could hang the bus. Uninstall any other CD recording software you may have had on your system, as well as Nero. Then use any good Registry cleaner software to clean you registry.

These cause are documented in Nero Website.

May wanna give that a check.

then why wouldnt a scsi command aborted happening when i'm using + media.

Last night i was bored(due to that lovely hurricane frances) that i decided to try another back up this time only using movie only option in nero.It worked fine writing to my maxell -,just having a problem with the whole 1:1 disc option now while writing to - disc.

btw my drive is dma mode.

i did write liteon customer service to see if they can help me.

It seems you are having problem after problem and once you resolve one another comes up.

I will take your offer and have a look at the log file this will certainly help me to help you better.

I would be by now half way on a clean reeinstall of windows.

A fresh start is the best way to start.

This is why I bought Acronis true Image 8 Never will have to go thru the hassle of formating the whole drive. Just restore to a backup point and voila problems solved. (insuring that I never had that problem to begin with of course.)

Food for thought next time it's windy out there.

post back with the uploaded log file

Can you please try the following: For this you will need a RW disk for the obviou reason of if it goes wrong u can erase it.

Use dvd Shrink to create a backup of the files you wish to burn.

Open Nero express (not nero recode) and choose the DVD buner from the drop down menu>>then choose DVD Video Files>>double click the video_ts folder on the main window>>click add>>point to the folder where DVD shrink created the backup files/open the video_ts folder>>right click/select all/add/finished>>next>>Burn

I need to see the log for this nero express not for the recode.

                        Let me know.

                          Hi Fil,

Now using a GSA-4120B and previous problem has gone. I can now burn DVDs.

However I think I still have issues with DVD Shrink and Nero, but this's another story.

When I got the 4120 I tested it with Nero (which was the only DVD software on PC at the time) and everything was OK.

Then I reinstalled DVD Decryter and DVD Shrink and tried to copy a DVD using Shrink. It froze at the burn stage. I shut Shrink down and went to Nero. I tried to burn the files that Shrink had ripped from the DVD using Nero but Nero's burn icon remained greyed out (as if I hadn't selected a drive).

I uninstalled and then re-installed Nero and I was then able to use Nero to burn the DVD.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

                          Cheers,

                          Dave

same old command though with scsi command aborted reset occured.

                                Hi the Mg3

I would still like to see the Nero log (not nero recodes log)

Let me know if all is ok.

When you say a clean restore, do you mean you formated your drive and started again or you used Xp's restore option?

                                Good things
