ARRGH! Getting coasters with new Liteon SOHW-812S

I had been using a TDK 440 4x dvd burner, using DVD Encryptor, DVD Shrink and Clone DVD with TDK DVD+R 4x media. This setup worked perfectly everytime.

I upgraded to a LITEon SOHW-812S, using the same exact software but changed to Memorex DVD+R 8x discs.

I burned 5 dvds and only one came out okay, 3 of them had major skips and jumps and 1 didn't make it past the menu.

I hadn't uploaded the latest firmware (I have now, but haven't tried anything yet) Hopefully that will solve the problem, but if anyone has any other experience or suggestions about this, I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you.

    Thanks!

i have an Lite On DVD+RWSOHW-8025 dvd burner
80 gig hard drive, use nero for backing up dvds.
    in the past .
    with my old burner
i was succesfully using memorex dvd+R disc,
using dvd decoder-dvdshrink & nero burning rom 6.
    but not with the lite-on.
it just made coasters of them.
after calling the lite-on tech, he told me
that memorex were not compatable with lite on
he told that there was no firmware..
he sent me a list of dvd blank media that would work with them
here is a list of approved blank dvd media
    DVD+R : CMC, MAXELL, MCC, |
    PHILIPS, PRODISC, RICOH, Ritek, |
    SONY, TYUDE |
    DVD+R9 : MCC |
    DVD+RW : CMC, Daxon, Infodisc, |
    MCC, PHILIPS, PRODISC, RICOH, |
    RITEK, SONY |
    DVD-R : CMC, GSC, Maxell, MCC, |
    Prodisc, Ritek, Sony, TY |
    DVD-RW : MCC, RITEK
so for now im able to burn imation.
but am having skips & jumps
trying to figure this out myself
i dont know if any of this helped
    good luck ,
    Ken

      Hi Ken,
Thanks for the info. But I'm a little confused about the last part. You said you were are still getting skips even with the recommended media or just from Imation (which is not on that list)?

      Thanks again,
      Lee

sorry, i had the imations sitting around.
with my previous computer burner, i could use just about anything.
im going to try burning at 2x speed to see if there is a difference.

any one able to help either of us?

Well as I said, I downloaded the latest firmware for the SOHW-812S and have since burned two discs, both on the Memorex DVD's (the only ones I have right now) and they seem to have come out fine.

With any luck, maybe the updated firmware did the trick for me. I'll burn a couple more and see how it goes.

It looks like the latest firmware upgrade fixed my problem. I burned 5 dvd's so far and they seem to be okay - all of them Memorex 8x DVDs. Plus I am not doing anything else on the computer while the disc is burning. (Browsing the web while I was burning might have contributed to the problem before.)
