I updated the firmware, i am only missing windows service pack 2 for updates. I still get an error. I will also try a different media.

Try with a RW media of good quality (Fuji, Verbatim, Ritek, TDK).

Malakhi, you can try AoA DVD Ripper. It copy DVDs to any kind of file keeping same quality and takes up less room on hard drive. Easy to use.
