I've played my backups on brands like Naiko, JVC, Panasonic, Phillips, LG, Sony, Bush, Amstrad and all played my media to perfection. These are from a combinations of friends Standalone players as well as DVD drives on PC's.
The media of choice for me as been RITEK -R media with G-04 type dye (deep purple) , now I have to say I had a couple of failures where the once a disk was bad and where I stuck a label.
No labels are stuck on my mediad now I print them straight to disk.
If you are considering buying the HP DVD530i because of the Double Layer hability dont buy a Double layer drive just yet. [b]Hold on a few months more until they support -R/+R DL media.
This is the best advice I can give you and I'm not alone.
The reasons for this are:
*Expensive media
*reliability on burn and playback mostly the layer transition on both burn/playback.
*Scarce availability of good media.
*Every brand is trying the failure and succsess of this new type of at our expense not to mention the burning software support is still a bit riddled with bugs.
*Price of drives

The Epson family printers that print straight to CD/DVD start with the model R200.
As for the drive I would buy something else maybe like a +/- but not a DL even if you dont care about the DL thing right now.
