    Burned DVD's full of gitches and pixellation

    Every DVD I burn is corrupt. Tried movies, data and Xbox.
    The movies are all pixellated and Xbox stuff fails to boot.

    I am using:
    Windows XP SP1, Athlon Xp2600, 256meg ram, NEC2510 burner, Liteon DVDrom, 80gb Fujitsu HD, partitioned. Uprated power supply, 80pin IDE cable, seperate ide for HD and DVD's.
    I'm using DVDshrink and Nero, with Ritek dye media.

    If I burn ripped Vob files with windows, the end result is corrupt. However, if I copy the files to my G4 Mac and burn them onto same media with PioneerA04 the movie is fine.
    Therefore I put the Pioneer into the PC and tried. Still the same corruption. The problem must lie in the PC and software then?

    Anyone have a clue what is going on?

    cheers.

      Overheating?

      How can I tell if it's too hot? I leave it on for days at a time and it runs fine.

      Today I tried to update the NEC firmware but the software doesn't work. Howevere, I doubt this would cure the probelm anyhow. It does the same things if I put the PioneerA04 back in the PC

      Help???

        Download and install speedfan (freeware): http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

        This will help you monitor your temps.

          Sometimes you have to do the flashing in DOS to have it to work.

          You have installed the latest Nero updates for your current Nero?

                You could post your latest log from this file;

                Program Files/Ahed/Nero/Nerohistory.log

                It might give a clue.

                    Latest firmware version is 2.16.

                    I think that your big problem is this;

                    Disc Manufacturer: PRINCO -

                    Try to burn with a highgrade brand. Princos are what they are. Sometimes they can be good if you burn them at a lower speed such as 2X.

                    Another way around would be to install hacked firmware that is designed for Princos.

                      Not sure that media is the problem. If I put the PioneerA04 into the PC and burn a DVD-R then I get a corrupted film. Same with VCD's. However, if I move the drive to my G4 Mac and burn the same Vob files, onto exactly the same media it works. Same drive - same media, different platform!

                      Likewise with the NEC drive. Therefore, the media cannot be the issue. It must be a problem with the PC sending corrupt data to the DVD burner.

                      I've tested both burners on the lowest speeds they support.

                      I've tried updating the firmware on the NEC and I get a "Flashing error". Haven't tried in Dos yet. The Pioneer is set to the most current firmware. I've also checked the Bios settings on the PC. Have set UltraDMA to 3, and auto. Also set the HDD to DMA 6. Motherboard seems to be set up correctly etc. The machine is very stable and never crashes, and all the temperatures look okay. It just won't write anything correctly.
                      Also tried Alcohol120 and Fireburner. No luck.
                      I originally had the Pioneer drive in, but it started burning coasters so I thought it was the drive. That's why I bought the NEC. But, that didn't cure the problem either.

                      Really stuck now. There must be a logical reason for this?

                        1) On the PC side of your problem, make certain that you have NO other programs running (background or otherwise) while burning...

                        2) Check to see if your PC has any bad RAM...

                          Checked the ram using memorytest. no faults.
                          Also, have tried burning with no other applications running. Same results.

                          It seems to burn Audio CD's ok. Well, they sound ok when played, whether they've written ok is another matter though.
