out of +r dvds looking to get -r

i am new to backing up my movies and when i started i just got a few blank dvd+r disks to see how things went , now i am out od disks and thinking about trying out the -r disks after looking through the forum i see that ritek seems to be top notch? i have only had a few problems with the +r disks ...... one movie got stuck about 5 minutes into it just hit the fast forward and it took off again with out any more problems , one movie the sound isnt in sync with the video pretty weird there??? and the last is one movie was pretty pixilated then just locked up and would not play any more ?? ... kind of blaming all on cheap disks? (value disk) but also wonder if the -r are better thne the +r ???? thanks for yor input!!

It's not a question of whether DVD-R is "better than" DVD+R" or vice-versa - it's simply a matter of which format will be PLAYABLE on the player(s) you'll be using...

i use maxell -r,never had any problems with them(the 10pack with the cd cases)not the spindle one.
Also i think you may be able get a sample pack with a bunch of diffrent brands to make sure they work in your dvd player.

"kind of blaming all on cheap disks?"

        I'd give Ritek a try...

You may want to read the following about discs, players, and burners:

          for writer compatibility search here:

and for DVD player compatibility search here:

and here is a neat little program for checking a disc manufacture and ID:
