    I got a new 8X DVD burner that burn at 1x speed with 4X media and it took 50 minutes to finish burning. My friend got the same 8x burner and burn using the same media and it burn at 4X and it took only 13 minutes with the same movie. Why is it the same computer system have different burning results? Please help.

    If you burn with Nero and you have and old version of that program that also came bundled with an other burner it's locked to lowest burning speed with that new burner.

      Actual, I bought the same computer system like my friend except he came with 8X DVD burner. I bought my 8X DVD burner seperately and installed it myself. I read on forum that something to do with DMA setting or hardware setting like Master, Slave and CS. Does anybody know the correct way to set this hardware. He and I use the same computer, same software, and same media. I tried to find out the roots cause that made my burner burn at slow speed. Could it be my friend burner was installed by his computer system company install it differently?

        DMA settings;

        Could try out this - just to rule out Nero as the fault;

          I checked the DMA setting using your guide and everything looked fine.

          I did used the DVDdecryter software before I use Nero and they are slow.

          Here is the thing, my friend computer system use the same DVD Shrink software I use, the same computer system, the same media. The only thing different is his DVD burner is factory installed and I bought it seperate it and installed it myself. What do you think I should try?

            Did you install the burner on the same ribbon as your HDD?

            What software came with your burner?

            Did you set the burner as "master" or "slave"?

            Most burner come set as "Master" - did you place the
            burner in END slot or the MIDDLE slot on the ribbon?

              No, the burner is NOT install with the same ribbon as HDD.

              Burner came with NO software.

              I set the burner as Master and CD-ROM as Slave.

              I place the burner at end slot and CD-ROM middle slot same as ribbon cable.

                Check for a firmware update at the burner manufacturer's website...

                  I updated the DVD burner firmware. Now, my DVD-RW and my CD-Rom won't open CD-Rom disc. It said "Insert a disc into drive". When I insert Audio-CD, factory sofware, and DVD movie. They work fine. The only thing both DVD Drive and CD Drive won't read are CD-R disc that I burn yesterday. After updated the DVD burner firmware, it doesn't work. What can I do?
