    Bad Burns, Coasters EVERYWHERE...

Hopefully someone could shed some light on this...

I've been trying to burn DVD's with absolutely no success - I've tried reinstalling all the software involved, re-flashing my burner with the latest firmware (Lite-On SOSW-852S, version PL01b).
Before, I was getting corrupted burns or just discs that would play fine until the end, where they would stutter and eventually stop. Now I get a write error.

    Here's the log:

    Verbatim DVD-RW

All have failed everytime, except for the DVD-RW, that doesn't really fail that often.

If anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE HELP...

Princos are tricky to burn. You need the right firmware and luck. I would go for the Verbatim RW disc. Atleast you will not waste any discs. When you can burn that one - you know your system is ok and you can try with other brands.

      Ahhh....

      Thanks for the reply!!

I already have the dropdown set to 'DMA if available'.

Is there any reason the drive would default to 'PIO Only'?

Ok, that worked, but now I'm getting a new error (with the princo discs):

        Any ideas?

As Cynthia stated above these disc are iffy at best. Use a better quality of disc.

Invest in some Ritek Grade A media...

Hmm, as a matter of fact i do in a curious way like Princos. When I began burning they where the cheapest.

The trick is to find a hacked firmware - i didn't find any in those days. In early days there where a lot of guides on how to hack your own firmware. I got it to work if I only burned at 2x. Then the Verbatim sank in price and I moved over to them.

Princo is tricky but not impossible. There are a lot of other brands (no longer in the market - wonder why...) that I never had any luck with. Hope I can donate all my odd old brands to a museum someday.

I think that your problem is that your burner/firmware don't cover the mediacode of Princo. Could give it a last try to burn at 1x.

I have also burned them sucessfully but have had too many bad experiences with them to agree, still, I guess they do work for some

With the price of more reliable media so cheap at the mo', discs that are made with the Princo dye are simply not an option (at least for me, anyway)

                    Follow Up...

I got some Ritek media as per cynthia's suggestion, and it worked on the first try at 2x.

Apparently, this burner (Lite-On Slimtype SOSW-852S) is pretty picky when it comes to media.

                    Thanks again!!
