Burn failed at 8x with External burner

    Thanks for any help.
I just purchased a Mad Dog 16xDL external burner and tried three times to burn a DVD without success. It uses a USB 2 connection. I use nero to burn and I will paste the log failure.
I installed the new drivers as well.
I will be sending the burner back tomorrow to tigerdirect!!!!

Can anyone understand this log and help me?

You appear to be experiencing a buffer overrun/underrun, while trying to burn at 8X.

Try burning at 2X or 4X (preferably 2X)

THANKS- But what's the point of a 16x burner and not be able to burn at that speed?
      I'm returning it today.

        1. Please remove your serialnumber form your post above.
        2. Your burner can burn at 16x - buth you need media that are certified for that speed. The discs you are trying to burn at 8x - are they labeled 8x?
        3. You are using Nero version 6.0.0.11 - download latest version 6.6.0.1. In versions later than yours - there has been major fixes in the program to cope with USB2 devices.
        4. Latest version of the firmware is 2.F9 - you are using 2.F6.
        5. Your burner is a rebadged NEC ND-3500AG. A very good burner.
        6. The Queue again message indicates that you are burning with to high speed for that media.
        7. What brand of discs do you use?
        8. In general - if you want an external burner and your PC have firewire extensions - it's less tricky to attach burners to such a device than thru an USB.

          Cynthia,
Thanks for your reply. Yes the media is TDK8x.
To me it's not woth the risk of trying to make something that should work work!!!
Do you think I'd have the same problems with a internal 16x burner if installed properly? Or would I still need all that firmware?
Thanks again for taking the time to reply,
          Goldie

An internal burner is always much easier to cope with. USB devices can be tricky. So if you can - get yourself an internal one. TDK is good media. The firmware needs to be updated sometimes - mainly because of the releases of new medias. If the new media don't exist in your firmware - your burner will not recognize it and fail to burn.
