i have 8x speed on my burner..but havent had much luck with it...some people say it could be the media i have been using but i was just wondering whats the best speed to burn media....and if you have media that says 8x does is neessarly mean that it can handle speed cause i remember when cd burners first started coming out with high speeds, some of the cds would skip during play....does this happen 2 dvds also?

I have an 8x writer although I never burn at the top speed. What's an extra 7.5 mins?

No 30 minutes with DMA on.
It tells me its burning at x4 it takes from the moment Nero says file relocation begun until complete, approx, 30 minutes... Always has...

Single Layer(4.7GB) write speeds
1x (CLV) = about 58 minutes
2x (CLV) = about 29 minutes
2.4x (CLV) = about 24 minutes
4x (CLV) = about 14.5 minutes
6x (CLV/ZCLV) = about 10-12 minutes
8x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 8-10 minutes
12x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 6.5-7.5 minutes
16x (CAV/ZCLV) = about 6-7 minutes
Dual/Double Layer(8.5GB) write speeds
1x CLV = about 105 minutes
2.4x CLV = about 44 minutes
4x CLV = about 27 minutes

Mmmm, I though Nero squashed all the write speed bugs, I remember it happening to me with an early version of Nero 6.
Whats happens when you ISO write with Decrypter? Does it still take 30 mins? Also try a simulation in Nero...

This write speed has remained contant since sp1 and Nero 5.5.10.56
Always the same time... 30 minutes (give or take) in my case...
I have tryed a simulation with nero with equal results...
DVD decripter I havent tried yet but I never used and plan on using DVD decripter, unless I really, really, really must do...
I maintain my theory about Aheads failures to resolve the major bugs with their software... These updates are mere throw offs, and failed attempts to resolve our main issues with theire soft.

Does all your logs look like this one? If so - there is something wrong.
The reason for your 30 min burning at 4x is that your burner have very hard to write on your discs. There is a lot of "Queue again later" errors.Comment

I can watch all the DVDs and they play on everything, from standalones like Sony's, Phillips, Naiko, JVC's, name it...
Never had a non player yet and only a coaster or two from a bad disk and a silly experince with NTSC video...
