    Printable Discs?

    Hi

I wonder if I can ask for a few opinions please.

I have been successfully backing up my DVds for about a month now. When I backup on to a Datawrite DVD-R everything is just dandy, works like a dream. However, when I do the same on a printable Ridata DVD-R the film freezes, stutters and eventually becomes unwatchable.

The thing is, having just forkeds out on a printer that is capable of printing onto the DVD I kinda want to carry on using printable discs. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of the Datawrite printable discs ie are they any good?

    Cheers

PS I have a pack of 50 Ridata DVD-Rs going cheap if anyone is interested

Oops, sorry forgot to mention. I have been burning these discs at the lowest speed that Nero allows me to, 2x. Is there maybe a setting that I could alter that would allow 1x ?Clutching at straws that maybe this would result in a successful burn.

Do you have the latest firmware installed for your writer?

Shame. I use Ridata with the Ritek G04 dye and they work flawlessly.

Just out of interest, do you print before or after you burn?

            After I have burned.

Have you ever tried the Datawrite printable DVDs? I was thinking of giving them a go as I have had no problems at all with the ordinary ones (The orange ones....soz not very technical am I!)

Although they do not sound too bad:

And that is considerably cheaper than the Ridata ones. Think I'll give them a try. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply to me.

If there's anyone out there who has tried them can you give me some feedback please.

                      And as if by magic...

I've read the posts and I have to say that it is possible that your drive works better with the Datawrite Printable 8x DVD-R (is that the speed o fhte disks you were using B4?)

There are 3 types Datawrite CMC MAG. AE1, SKC Co.,Ltd and Ritek G-04. (maybe even more I dont know of)

If you can put one of your old disks on the drive and start neroinfotool, save the log and uploaded so I can have a look at what type of disks you used B4...

I use Ridata disks as well with no problems....

I will be waiting for your hot breath...

                        Good morning Poppet

You've got me a tad confused so I hope the following information is what you are looking for

Printable Ridata Discs (The ones I am having problems with)
                        Layers 1
                        Supported speeds 4x - 2x
                        Manufactures ID Ritek MO2

Orange Datawrite Discs (Ones that work perfectly)
                        Layers 1
                        Supported Speeds 8x - 6x - 4x
                        Manufacturers ID Ritek GO5

As yet unused Ridata Printable Disc, just ripped open the wrapper
                        Layers 1
                        Supported Speed 4x - 2x
                        Manufacturers ID Ritek GO4

Maybe I ought to try burning one of the newest printable discs and see how that goes. Strange they should be different as i ordered them at the same time and the wrapping etc is all identical.

Can you make any sense out of all this

                        Hot stuff

                          Yes that is it.

The info I put in is the manufacturer ID code... As some datawrite are not using the Ritek G-04 or G-05 dye and can cause some compatibility probs...

I thought the datawrite's you used with no probs could have been one of the other manufacturers

Printable Ridata Discs (The ones I am having problems with)
                          Layers 1
                          Supported speeds 4x - 2x
Manufactures ID Ritek MO2 puah! (I spit on those) lol

No wonder you have problems with that piece of crap...

Ritek G-04 (burns x4) dye and G-05 (burns x8) is fine...

By all means have a go at the ridata G-04 which should work fine...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr just tried one of the new batch, the GO4, the results are even worse.

Looks like I might as well just bin the lot (

One thing, I burnt it at 2x would doing it at 4x give a better result? Clutching at straws here

                              Yabba dabba do.............success

I uninstalled the updated version of Nero that I was using and reinstalled the OEM version that came bundled with my burner. Tried burning one of the GO4 discs and it worked. I am so happy.

Thanks to you both for your input.
