          2 things.

Remove the serial number from the 2nd log (starts 1A20- ###.)

Turn the DMA on for your burner. I don't think that is the problem but it can only help.

Its 00.50am here so I am oft to me pit

          Try again tomorrow .....

Sorry that should have read DMA for DVD-ROM

Just noticed it's an external USB burner. Check your cable connections. I have heard that the supplied lead can sometimes be a bit "iffy". This drive is not available here in Spain.
Don't forget to remove your serial number (use the edit funtion)

WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'REMOVE THE SERIAL NUMBER'. ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT REMOVING IT FROM THE POST SO OTHERS CAN'T SEE IT OR AM I SUPPOSED TO REMOVE IT ON THE COMPUTER OR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE?

Try not to use upper case when posting.

Edit your post and remove the serial number from it so others cannot see it

DMA = Control panel > System > Hardware > Device manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Secondry IDE Channel > right click for properties > Advanced. You will then see the DMA settings what is important is "Current transfer mode. This should be DMA.

Have you checked you USB cable ? Have you burnt anything on this drive at all ? (Not just using NERO). What are the power settings on your Laptop ? Do you have the Laptop power settings set to always on ? Screen savers ?

Power settings are 'Turn Off monitor: Never'
'Turn off hard disks:Never' System standby:Never and System hibernates: Never. I did not turn off my screen saver

I have burned to this drive in the past. I went in to change the DMA and under Device 0 transfer mode is DMA if available and Current transfer mode is PIO Mode. I don't see any way to change it. Device 1 has Device type at auto detection , transfer mode to Dma if available and current transfer mode is Not applicable

This link should help with the DMA. Try the registry option first. I am not saying this will cure your ills.....but it might..
