HP Movie Writer / VHS copyprotection

hi all

I have an hp movie writer 5000c, which works fine.. I can move som of my own recorded vhs-tapes to dvd or vcd... But I have som old purchased vhs tapes, which I also would like to move to dvd, but the hp software says that the vhs tape is copyprotected ? how can it be, and does anyone know how to go arround the problem ?
I didn't know that one could "copyprotect" vhs-tapes...
