Pausing/Glitching Problems DVD Movies

I am having problems with some of my movies to where they will start to do what looks like someone is QUICKLY pausing the movie (almost like freezing), but usually never in the same spot. I have tested this on a VAST variety of home DVD players (name brand AND generic). Some, the movies play fine, others have that problem. Here is what I am using:

DVD Shrink (the latest) {To convert the movie to a dvd-r size}
Nero (the latest) {To burn}
NOTE: I've also used DVD Decryptor, in case it was caused by encryption (protection)...no avail.

Here is my system:
Windows XP Pro (SP1, and all updates for SP1...do NOT like SP2)
Windows 98 SE (this system is dual boot, and both sides are fat32)
AMD Athlon XP 1700 (1.47 GHz)
PC2100 DDR (1 Gig...Kinsington)
160 Gig (7200 RPM) Maxtor HD
Pioneer DVR-106D 4x Writer
DVD-R Media Brand: Ridata (Ritek) 4x

I've had this happen on Toshiba DVD Players, but NOT happen with CyberHome (generic).

I've HEARD that some DVD players only like + media, some only like - media, and some like both. I use strictly - media. Could THIS be my problem? At first, I thought it was the fat32 causing the problems, but then I got to researching.

Can someone shed some light on this subject for me...please?

To find out if it is in the burning process or in the playing process you have your problem - do this test;

Download www.dvdinfopro.com (freeware) insert one of your burned disc and selelct the option "Test your media for CRC read errors" - if you only get green dots you know that your burning is ok and it is the player that causes the problem. If you get any red dots - you know something else.

Solutions:
1. Firmware update for your burner
2. Try a better media

I ran the test and every block was green.....but my question, more or less, is this: Could it be possible that the problem may be that the players in question may prefer/require either + or - (maybe both in most cases, but for the average) media instead of just using - media on all I burn?

See, here is my problem. The movies work fine on half of the players, but have the...pausing (for lack of better term) problem on others. This is about a 50/50 problem (toss of a coin). I have been struggling with trying to figure out what is the cause. I just cant' accept the fact that half or more of new dvd players out will have this problem and will just have to deal with it. That can't be right. Millions of people do this without this problem.

I did a firmware update (the most recent anyhow) on my writer. My writer is a -/+ writer, so I can do either discs.

On another side, could it be that I'm using Fat32 to do this, instead of NTFS, which will accept the larger files without splitting them into smaller?

Please help as this is becoming a HUGE problem. As I said, the testing came out clean. Now what? I just can't see how half of the DVD players out (name brand or generic alike) are going to have this pausing problem.

To be more specific, it's as if the movie was dirty, but it isn't. It's like pressing pause over and over and over as fast as you can for a few seconds (5 - 30 seconds)....and usually never in the same place.

I could see brand of media being the problem....but I only buy Ridata (Ritek), which is supposed to be one of the leading brands.

What am I doing wrong? I'm pulling my hair out on this one guyz.

It's not a FAT32 issue - if not your hard disk is very fragmented - but I have hard to believe it would help you.

Don't know if your burner supports bitsetting/book mark - but you could try it with your +R media: http://www.dvdplusrw.org/Article.asp?mid=0&sid=2&aid=42

Okay, so it's not a FAT32 problem. I frequently defrag, but NOT before I burn the DVD (after I've ripped it). I don't see the necessity in that.

You mentioned the + media I use. Might that be a problem? I use - media. Is + better for movies (for home DVD players)? If so, that's NO problem to correct. Use - for data, + for movies. Just please let me know if you know of anything like that.

I'm so frustrated right now. I'm not one to turn for help, as I have a man vs. machine complex. lol! I can usually figure things out, but this one is REALLY buggin me guyz. Please help me figure this out and I will be eternally grateful.

DVD-R are more compatible for DVD Players. I notice proffesional burners use Ritek G04 discs

I had similar problems to you wasted 15 discs trying to get things right.

All I have to do is lower the burn speed to get a perfect copy i.e 8x disc I burn at 4x. I have to do this with DVD+R too for a brilliant copy.

Do another burn this time lower the speed.
