    Problems burning

I'm new with this "ripping/burning DVDs" stuff...I just installed a Sony DRU-540A CD/DVD ReWritable Drive and downloaded DVD Shrink (drive came with Nero) I can "rip"/"backup" DVDs to my computer fine I guess (only video files appear in the folder - Video_TS, VTS, .IFO, .VOB, .BUP, etc.), but when I try and burn them, it usually starts with an error, like 'power caliberation error" or something...tried it with different DVDs/movies and different DVD-R brands....downloaded the firmware for it...tried to do it with DVD Decrypter but when I tried to open the files with DVD Shrink it only showed the Main folder, no files or any Video_TS files.....not too happy right now.....Any ideas would help!! Thanks

You could post your log file from Nero. You find it here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log

What kind of media are you using? Cheaper media?

I've tried Teon and Verbatim..I hear the drive 'spin'...then stop...then spin again...then stop...it does this a few times and then it continues to spin, but the error message pops up

            "I just installed a Sony DRU-540A CD/DVD"

A power calibration error is indicative of either a hardware problem or media that your burner doesn't recognize. It would appear that yours is a hardware problem.

You might want to consider returning the burner and getting a bew replacement...

Before you return it - enable your DMA for both devices on your IDE channel. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

I went to My computer-properties-device manager-IDE ADA/ATAPI controllers....I see 2 primary IDE channels, 2 secondary IDE channels, Standard Duel channel PCI IDE controller and VIA Bus Master IDE controller...when I go to the advance settings for the primary and secondary channels they are all set at "auto-detection" and "dma if available"...the bottom primary and secondary channels have different things for "current tranfer mode" (if that means anything....)
When I go to DVD/CD rom drives I see the ASUS and Sony, but nothing on DMA when I click them....(if you haven't guessed I'm not too good with computers!)
I think it may be either how I installed the drive or the drive itself because my brother's comp came with the drive and he's doing this fine (ripping and burning usuing Shrink and Nero) and he said he didn't change anything...I dunnooo....
