I/O error burning with decryper 3.5.1.0

I am getting an I/O error when burning an ISO image with DVD decrypter 3.5.1.0. Disc was encoded and ripped with dvd Shrink 3.2.0.15. Then I am burning ISO image with Decrypter.
I am new to burning, but have successfully burned about 15 movies. Now I can't burn a DVD-R disc without getting an I/O error (tried 3 brands). I tried a DVD-RW and that worked!

PC: Sony Vaio Pentium 4 cpu 3.00 ghz, 2.99 ghz, 504 mb of ram

Drive: Pioneer DVR-108

This disc worked when I first started burning (a couple weeks ago) and still continues to work now!!!!
I did not include dvdinfopro for this disc because my post would have been too long.

Can any one make any sense out of this? Should I post reports for actual failed discs?

Use DVD Decrypter first to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO"

I have been considering updating the firmware on the Pioneer DVR-108. However, I know nothing about doing it. Reading all these cautions and things like "for experienced users only" it is really scarey. I just bought this pc, DVD drives included. My family would kill me if I did something to screw it up! But then I think, if its not accomplishing what we purchased it for, what good is it?

It also seems as though others who have purchased their 108 around the same time as me are getting it with a newer firmware, and still updating them further.
Do service plans cover things like firmware updates?
Seems to me it should, especially if the equipment in question was out dated when it was purchased.
If anyone knows of any firmware tutorials please post Or are they all different?
Or maybe some one could give me some insite on the 108, like an idea of what would be involved?
I want to learn all I can before attempting this!

I tried ripping Resident Evil Apocalypse with dvd decrypter first and didn't even get through the rip. It was showing 0 errors but the retries would rise into the high teens before a window would appear asking if I wanted to try again or abort. I chose abort and then chose to delete incomplete file. But then decrypter would continue ripping and the same thing would happen again. I assumed what was happening was that I was deleteing the "troublesome" file, then decrypter was starting up again at the next file?? So I just closed it out.
It occurs to me now, that I may have read a few posts regarding people having trouble ripping Resident Evil Apocalypse. So maybe thats not a good choice to be attempting this with. BTW- I have been using my read only drive to encrypt and rip.

The problem I was having ripping w/ decryter was due to not having the newest version or from what i am reading my choice of movie.
I did manage to burn a back up of Resident Evil 2 w/ Decrypter. But I noticed that the buffer level indicator (on the left) dropped completely a few times. When this would happen the device buffer indicator (on the right) would drop some and fluctuate. Also, the time remaining would shoot up. Then it would correct itself.
I did an error test on the disc w/dvdinfoplus that indicated no errors.
Plus, complared the burned disc w/the ISO image, which indicated quite a few differences. But I am not really sure what tests to run, or what all the results indicate.
Did a quick check of disc on stand alone dvd player and movie looks good, but i won't know for sure until i watch it all the way through.

Still considering the firmware update. I just want to read up on it more before attempting. I was reading information that said you must update firmware in DOS. Is this true? I've never used it before. Plus, I wanted to burn a disc after up dating decypter, so I would know what caused the problem.
