    Operation Timed Out

    Hi,

I'm trying to burn my first DVD. I'm using Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD. My DVD burner is a Sony DRU-710A and I'm using FujiFilm DVD+R media.

My problen is that the disk will burn to 98% and then give an error message that the current operation has timed out. The disk will then pop out and not be readable.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thank You

Have you tried using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shink to backup your movies?
      Cheers!

The firmware update seems to indicate that it is to make the drive Mac compatable so I didn't download it.

Also, I should tell you that I am a total beginner.I figured out how to make a movie on the Vegas program and author it on DVD Architect but I have not ever been able to complete a burn. I also installed the drive myself and updated it's driver.

I don't know what DVD decrypter or DVD shrink even are.

DVD Shrink is a free and user-friendly dvd backup tool, enabling you to make backup copies of your DVDs to a single DVD±R/RW or Dual-Layer DVD+R. DVDs too big to fit on a DVD±R can be edited and/or compressed. DVDShrink.info does not condone the copying of DVDs in countries where it is illegal.

Thank you guys for your replies.

I guess you are suggesting that I scrap this Sony DVD Architect software and try dvdshrink for burning.

I probably will try that if I can't figure out how to solve this error problem. I did spend 100.00 on this software. The darn thing should WORK.

In case some genius out there wants to take a stab at the problem, the details under the error message are,

            SFMMCX-[17]
            atapi-[1]
            sony rw dru 710A byo3[0]
            module mmc. cpp line 1261

That the burning errors out at 98% sounds as you are using crappy media.

Yes some of the FUJIFILM DVD+R from Japan is junk. But great reviews on the ones made in Taiwan.

                Try Verbatim, RiTek, RiData, Maxell...
                Cheers!

OK. I'll try some different media. I hope that works. It would be an easy fix.

I tried Maxell DVD+R and SonyDVD+R and had the same error.

I also e-mailed Sony tech support and have heard back nothing.
This is so frustrating. I don't know if the problem is with the Drive or the software.

                    Help Please

I just did a diagnostic test on my drive that I downloaded from the Sony site. It passed, so I'm going to cross that off the list of causes.

Have you tried backup a movie with DVD Shrink yet? Install both DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and back up one of your movies. Have id Burn To Target: DVD Decrypter.
                        Cheers!

                          Trion and Cynthia,
                          Thank you for your replys.

I went out and bought Nero 6 this weekend and tried to burn my movie with it. It failed.
I would like to post the error log but I want to remove my serial number first.
How many times does it appear on the log and where abouts is it located?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I'm a total noob. Thanks

Assuming that your log only has 1 entry, the serial number is at the very top. Should be the second line under your name.

Example of what it will look like:

                            "Ben Dover

                            xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx"

                              Thanks jmet,

I looked for it but didn't see it. But thats ok because I actually had SUCCESS!!!!!

I burned a DVD and It plays on my DVD player!

I almost can't believe it. I don't know what I did differently. Maybe it was all the swearing, crying and praying, I don't know. I just hope I can do it again. Colors look brighter, food tastes better.....

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply.
