dvd copy failing to perform end of disc after 100%

Hi all

I've got a bit of a prob with my DVR-106 and was wondering if anyone else on here had any clues....

The last week or so I've been unable to copy any of the DVD's I've authored in Adobe Encore. I've been doing this for a while and it isnt until recently I've had this problem. Nero reads the whole disc fine but when it burns it gets to 100% and hangs for a few mins and then says "unable to recover TOC" and then "unable to perform end of disc at once". I'm using the same media I've always used and has always worked. The only other thing is I'm unable to tell as yet if the discs have burned ok or not as my drive fails to recognise them after burning. I've had this prob from day 1 with this media but they always burnt ok and were recognised ok in other standalone players. I'll be testing them later on today to see if they're ok or not. But I've got this bad feeling my drive's on its way out... I've attached the log for more info.

It appears to have waited or spent 8 seconds retrying, before starting the lead-out. Then you hit the TOC and DAO probs.
Have you stopped all other background applications?
It recognises your media ok.
You could try downloading and running DVDInfoPro (it's back, everyone!) and running the drive tests.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that bit in the log was a bit dodgy, I'll try it again with nothing else running. I've downloaded DVDinfopro, which tests should I run in specific?

I think my drive is having serious problems, its stopped recognising every DVD R i put in now! Keeps saying the discs are blank...

My firmware is a region free version of the 1.07, is this a problem if I upgrade to 1.08?

You need to find the regionfree version of 1.08.

I dont think there is a region free v1.08 as far as i can see. There's a v1.08 for the dvr-a06, but dont think that would be a good idea...

Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't work either. What I said about all dvd r's not being recognised isnt true; but media which I've had no problem at all with in the past is playing up... Still doesn't solve why the burning isn't working. I'm gonna try another program to see if Nero's at fault...

Oh yea it burns cdr's no problem at all.

Erm because thats what i thought at the time but I've tried others since and it seems i was wrong...

Find a previously burned, working backup, or even original.
Run DVDInfoPro's CRC check on it.
Try a ReWritable and DVD Decrypter .. but it sounds like your burner is on it's way out

At last some progress! Big thanks to Cynthia for pointing me towards that firmware update, I finally managed to copy the disc which spurned about 10 coasters before...

As far as media recognition is going, well I'm still having a few probs but that might be a media issue I'm not sure. At least it recognises the burned discs which I used as masters, well, so far anyway...

I'm a bit peeved at the ones I bought not so long ago from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk (SVP communications). The first time I inserted it after flashing the drive it played ok, but the second time it just came up with blank disc. The ones I bought are here, about a 1/4 of the way down the page, the "{DV 3184} Datawrite Titanium Silver 8x DVD-R in Spindle Tubs of 25". And it clearly says they compatible with my burner. I might be sending them back soon so any recommendations on what would def work as a master disc with my burner?

It's tough finding the right media - most of us have had an ordeal doing it. The brand I'd started with, degraded with further purchases. In fact, the id code differed despite the same part number!
