    Failed Burns

    Hey there,

Anyone who can help me out with this problem will be my hero! First of all I am fairly new to burning DVD's.

I have been tring to burn an DVD image, and when burning with Nero (most update version) Approx 20% or futher through the burn it just hangs and doesnt give an error message. I end up aborting the process. I have tried this 4 times now. I am wasting blanks

I am using the new Sony DRX-710UL, connected with firewire.
    I am using Nero
    I am using maxell dvd-r

    There is the error Log:

Your media is not being properly recognized.

    1) Download the latest firmware update available for your burner

    2) To determine the capabilities/limitations of your DVD burner, as well as media compatibility, go to:

Don't try to change the booktype when using DVD-R media.

I never changed anybook type settings (for I dont know how)...Like I said I am fairly new to this... My device also can be connected with USB, I just never did because my laptop doesnt have USB 2.0... Would this be worth trying, or can you help me check booktype??

I also have the most current firmware version availible for this device. (BYX2)

Just an update. I ended up trying the burn via USB and after a painful 1hr and 30min it completed succesfully. I cannot have this dreaded slow speed. So its apparent that it might be something with the firewire. Any Ideas?!?!

Just a thought, but have you tried different media. Maxell is horrible. I bought a stack of 30 Maxell and out of 10 burns only 3 work. I bought a 50 stack of Verbatim and out of 38 burns 38 work.

Ran into the SAME problem with the firewire connection - does not seem to matter what I would do with the DVD burner but making home videos, burning movies, etc... will NOT work with firewire connection. Everything works perfectly with USB, albeit slower than firewire but the drive is too good to pass up. I honestly don't think it's your media, I think it will work 100% reliably with USB and the firewire issue has yet to be resolved.
