    I/O device error - please help

    Hi,

    I have tried reading the fAQ and forum and did not find an answer to my problem. Please help.

    I was using DVD shrink to backup a non-encrypted file to my DVD burner (for the first time.) 10 minutes into the process, I got the following message:

    Failure to write file "C:\home movie\vts_01_02.VOB"

    The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

    Can any of you experts tell me what to do?

    Many thanks

    Normally - I/O errors are due to faulty/crappy media. Have you burned anything with success before with that media?

        Cynthia - it's my first time. Just brought this sony DVD burner and a bunch of CompUSA DVD+R disks. When you said media, you mean the burner and the blank disks, right? Thanks,

            media = blank disc

            "CompUSA DVD+R disks"
            I suggest in a more reputable brand of media such as Ritek Ridata or Verbatim. Cheaper media is poorly manufactured and usually ends up as a "coaster". (coaster = bad burn, unusable, Frisbee, drink coaster, etc.)

              Jmet,

              Thanks for the info. That may explain why I kept on getting I/O error. I will go and get a better brand tomorrow.

                  And don't forget to get a RW disc - if you can burn that you know your system is ok.
