    DVD shrink- burning problems

DVD shrink performs compression to my HD, but when I put a blank DVD-R in to backup movie. It goes through the Disc Checking phase and then kick out the blank DVD-R disc.

    It then says the following:

"Please insert empty disc to write to"

    Media requested DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW,DVD +R9 Double layer.

    Media Detected in drive unknown

I am using NERO start smart. and have burnt several other disc with no problem till now. I also tried several other blank disc with same results.

    Thanks for any help

Are these, by any chance "blank discs" you've purchased either via EBay or at a flea market?

I purchased them from a local computer store.

Place one of the "blank" DVDs into your burner. In NERO, click on the icon for "disc information". Does it say, "This disk is empty" - or does it show some amount of usage ("Session 1")?

It says "no disc inserted or drive not ready, please try again"

I am using a ULTRAN DVD-R blank disc and these disc worked on several previous burns. I also uninstalled and re-installed both my DVD shrink and NERO programs.

Try to reflash the firmware of your driver.

Simple way to tell if its the media or your burner, simply get a different brand (a reliable reputable brand no less, not some cheap crappy clearance close out special) and try them. If they work, you know it was the media that you bought at the "local computer store" was the problem.
