I want to back up this movie. Even if I do JUST the movie (which I happen to like doing), it is 6.5, which the compress it down to 60%. Im guessing 60% is pretty bad quality, should I just do two disc?

It would be beneficial if you stated what software you are using.

If it's DVD Shrink, re-post your question in the DVD Shrink-specific sub-forum(s) here (and then delete this one) - and read the many similar questions and posted responses there (and the "FAQ")...

Try using the "Start/End Frames" feature to cut out the ending credits, etc. You can set it to start exactly when the movie starts and end right after the last scene of the movie.

You would be surprised at the outcome using %60 compression if you used AEC (In the Quality Settings Tab) and use Max Smooth or Max Sharpness. Take into consideration though, using the AEC feature will dramatically increase the over all time to encode. (Up to a hour and a half, but is well worth it.)

Can I add a still image at the end of the first disc that says "Please Insert Disc Two"?

I have done the DVD and it comes out very well. I also project it on a big screen and it comes out very nice.

It is woth noting that some DVD's might require heavy compression but, if the bitrate is high then it works out ok.

If any doubt whether compression is too much. There is a bitrate calculator you can use.
