I am new to this... need a little advice

Hi all, I have read several of your posts, very informative. I have a question that may be rather dumb but it is driving me crazy.
I downloaded nero record 2 and dvd shrink 3.2. I copied "Napoleon Dynamite" (my wife's fav movie, LOL) onto my hard drive. I am now trying to transfer it to a DVD+R or DVD+RW (I bought the 'RW' after the 'R' wouldn't work).
Everytime I try to burn it I get an error message that says "Please insert a blank or rewritable CD into the _NEC DVD+RW (D Drive".

I have done this repeatedly but the computer won't read the DVD first. Is their something you have to do to the DVD before inserting it into the drive (some sort of initializing??). My computer is a Compaq Presario 3000+...

Anybody who can help I would greatly appreciate!! Please respond or email me at michael_robbins@texanscu.org or caseyinkc3@aol.com

    Thanks so much!!!!!!!

What model of your Nec do you have? What version of firmware do you have installed? If you don't know - run this program:

          This is one link: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1793

Seems that your installed firmware is the latest one: http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND2100A

You could check out your Compaq home page and see if there is any other available firmware.

Try DVD-Rs. In my experience, they are compatible with more hardwares. They are the only ones that play in xbox as well

If you are using DVD Shrink - try to burn with DVD Decrypter and see if that works. Here is a guide: http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=45238

That burner don't support -R media.

Thanks both of you... I played around with it and actually managed to burn Napoleon Dynamite for my wife and The Last Samurai for me- my favorite movie. Your advice and links have been priceless.
