Unistalled and reinstalled. Still same problem.

Error during backing up process with Shrink.

    "Failed to read file VTS_01_0.VOB.

    CRC"

I also tried using DVD shrink to backup right from the disks and they backed up fine this time, but then an error came during the burn process and it was the same log as I posted before.

I'm not really sure what else I can do.

Thanks again in advance for any advice.

      Sounds like a hardware problem.

You might try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on the burner. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...

        ## Decrpyter then finished and said that it was sucessful.
Then I opened the files with DVD Shrink , then about 30 seconds into back up I got the CRC on VTS_01_0.VOB ##
scan you hdd for "bad sectors".

I think I found the problem, when I switched around master/slave postitions and got everything onto the right IDE channels the DMA's changed a bit.

The hardrive I'm using is only set to Ultra DMA Mode 2, the burner is fine at Ultra DMA Mode 2. Now using the uninstall, let windows reinstall it method will not raise it higher than Mode 2.

I have been reading around the site, but I havn't really found out how to get it to go from Ultra DMA Mode 2 to Ultra DMA Mode 5.

Am I going to need to upgrade firmware for my motherboard? Something to do with BIOS? I'm not very educated on these two subjects either, what will I need to know about my computer?

Sorry about being terribly uneducated, I'm pretty confident I've come to the right place though thus far.

One of my older hard disks (a 6.5Gb one) can only be set to Mode 2. So I shouldn't worry as long as it's in DMA mode and not PIO mode.

Well, it is a 2 month old 80 Gb hard drive though.

Scanned for bad sectors, everything has been repaired. I've ran everything like Disk Defragmenter.

I also ran a cleaning cd already.

Yes it was brand new. There was only 1 error repaired when the scan was done though.

                      Ok,

SoI have narrowed the problem down to a hardware problem like setarip suggested.

So using my new "X" drive, 80gb max space. When I try to back anything up using DVD Shrink I keep getting the read error, CRC.

Now I cleared up enough space on my old "C" drive, 9.5 gb max, only 4.9 gb of space left on it. Now I tried using Shrink to back up Pirates of the Carribean and that went good, then I burned it with Nero, no problems. The movie plays perfectly on my DVD player.

So it is this new X drive. No what should I do about it, could it be a bad connection, bad sectors. Could I try re-formatting it? Any help appreciated.

Since this is now a hardware problem I am also going to move it to another board. Thanks alot.

does that mean that there was "bad sectors" found ?
if so, then over time, you can expect it to get worse (bad sector count)
