    Movie too large

I am in the process of backing up movie and when i opened the DVD, it displayed that the original contains 5635MB whereas my blank will hold 4464MB - I use dual layer DVDR-W's but it's not registering that extra media. I have yet to find a movie that i cannot back up until now. I have used DVD Decrypter to rip the movie to my hard drive then tried "OPEN FILES" to open my VIDEO TS file but it's still showing that the file is too large for my blank. There is only 205MB of "EXTRAS" for me to put into a "STILL IMAGE" in the drop down compression window...

    any help here?

    Thanks in advance -
    KK

    Hi kk179

If you are using D/L media you would not need to use DVD Shrink to compress your files.

An ISO read>ISO write with DVD Decrypter will suffice.

Just checking.... Your writer is capable of writing D/L media, right?

lol - i don't know....i threw the papework away as soon as i bought it.

so if i just go to "ISO WRITE" it'll put the entire file on my disk? (I think i did that before) i'll give it a shot and let you know. MANY MANY THANKS!

OK, i tried the ISO WRITE and a window popped up and said, "THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ENOUGH SPACE ON YOUR MEDIA" (or something comperable) indicating the sectors required and the sectors available - so the ISO WRITE didn't work.

Are you sure the media is dual layer? Also, post the brand and model of your writer.

i just double checked - they are NOT D/L, i've backed up nearly 100 movies and thought all along that they are, their just reg ol' 4.7gb DVD-r's ---- my burner is a HP DVD630e

is there any way to "shrink" the main movie so that it fits on a disk? If it's gonna be a pain, difficult or time consuming - i'll just just not do it. I've already spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME trying to figure out how to do it....it's not THAT important. It's just one movie

Right, an ISO read>ISO write will not work then if your original DVD is a DVD-9

You will need to use DVD Shrink.

Have you considered doing a movie only backup using Re-author in DVD Shrink.

You could of course re-shrink your shrunk files if the first output is too large (using Full Disc or Re-author)

i've never had to do it - i can give it a try...but i'm not sure what i'll be doing. at a quick glance - it doesn't appear as if i can "reshrink" the VIDEO_TS file, but i'll play with it.
                    thanks for trying...lol

ok - i think i got it, but i won't be able to let you know for about 45 mins till it's done. i went into "RE-AUTHOR" and just skipped about 3 or 4 of the previews....i "should" be good to go. if i need anything more - i'll give you a holla!

                        Thanks again-
