Firmware Upgrades

Not sure if I am posting this in the right forum, I apologize if I am not.

I have an older LG DVD-ROM. Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the firmware on a DVD-ROM to make it capable of playing burned discs?

I see no reason to even have the DVD-ROM in this box if I am not going to be able to read the burned discs with it.

LG Electronics GDR-8163BI GoldStar 16X...at least I believe so. I will have to pull it out when I get home.

Thanks, that is awesome information! I am going to have to pull the drive out to find out what the model is...but I am pretty sure I can find the firmware on that site.

Not sure if it will help my issue...but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed!

If it does not, do you know of a good DVD-ROM that will read burned DVD's?
