Menus do not work on DVD Player

I successfully did a full backup of a DVD movie to a double layer disc with DVD Shrink. Every thing works fine on my computer DVD-ROM(Including the Menus), but the menus do not work on my DVD player. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

Have you tried hitting the "Menu" button on your remote while the DVD is playing?

Why would you use DVD Shrink to do a DL backup?

You probably have the layer break set incorrectly, or not at all.

DVD Decrypter is the tool of choice to do a DL backup.

1. Pop in original - start DVD Decrypter, press R and green button.

2. Once decrypted, popin blank DL disk, press W, select MDS file, set bookmark if you can, press green button.

3. All done!

You have indicated that the disk plays fine in your "DVD ROM" drive. Does the disk play at all in your standalone player? It could be a media compatibility problem having to do with DL media.

Thanks for all the helpful posts. The DL DVD I made plays fine in my stand alone player as long as you don't have to change the sound for instance. You can get to that menu screen but there is no curser to move with the up/down control. If I use the computer DVD ROM, the menu has cursers and works. I will try making a copy with DVD Decrypter. BTW how do you set a bookmark?

It now sounds like a bad burn on the menu file, that's all. Tick that verify box in DVD Decrypter, OK? And it's a good idea to test your burn afterwards - see my sig.

Before wasting another expensive DL - I would just burn all the IFOs/BUPs and menu files (VIDEO_TS.VOB and anything ending in _0.VOB) onto an RW. Copy these into a new folder. Open IfoEdit and click Get VTS Sectors. And burn - will take a few seconds only.

Did you, perchance, DEselect ANY "sub-picture" files?

BTW: What is the movie? This could be a problem with stops in subtitle streams.

Hi all,
I burned a copy with DVD Decrypter and that worked fine. I did not deselect anything in the first burn. The movie was The Passion of the Christ. BTW my burner is a SONY DRU 720A. What does a bookmark do? I noticed SONY is not listed.

Very happy it worked for you!!!

The bookmark (sorry s/b booktype) sets the disk to behave as if it was a DVD-ROM (like a pressed DVD), instead of a DVD+R.

Perhaps the drive can not physically set the bits. I know my drive LG 4081B can't.
