Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope..Error

Been trying to backup Star Wars Episode 4, and when it gets to 49% in DVD Decryptor, it has a error.....I/O error, or something like that. I would hit retry, and nothing happens.....
Can anyone help?

The disk is probably damaged. Fingerprint on it? Scratch?

I'll try that tomorrow. I am currently at work. I dont remember seeing anything like that on the disk. Then again i can be wrong.. What about putting decryptor in a different mode? Does anyone think that might make a difference??

No. DVD Decrypter spews out that error when it doesn't like the disk.

Do that test - I'm sure you will find a damaged disk, irrespective of whether you can actually see a smudge or a scratch.

Found this in an old thread:

"I am pretty sure this is one of the bad pressings of Star Wars Ep 4 There have been no other issues except the well publicised pressing problem. There is no new protection on these disks so exchange it for another one......."

Ok, well i guess i cant backup my copy, if it does have some bad areas. Ill find another copy, and back it up.

Well, I went ahead and got another copy, and guess what??
The same exact thing. I/O error!! @ 49%!! Humm....Now what?
Any new ideas anyone?

set DVD Decrypter to ignore read errors

I tried ignore read errors, and that did not work either.
Whats funny is i backed up "empire strikes back" and "return of the jedi" and had no problems with either of those two. I also tried to do it in ISO read mode, that did not work either.

At the last resort before trying to get another copy, try this.

Before we get started, lets make sure we are using DVD Decrypter version 3.5.4.0 or later . (It is imperative that you use the latest version of DVD Decrypter to successfully create a backup.) Lets also go ahead and click the "Default" button to return DVD Decrypter settings back to normal.

First, start up DVD Decrypter (This screen is in "File" mode). (Screen Shot Below)



Click "Help", then click "About DVD Decrypter...". (Screen Shot Below)



After clicking "About DVD Decrypter...", this screen should pop up. (If your screen does not say "Version: 3.5.4.0" or later, please upgrade before you begin.) (Screen Shot Below)



Alternativly, you could enable the "log" feature of DVD Decrypter, and it will tell you what version you have on the very first line, as well as other helpful information! To enable the log, click "View", then click "Log". (Screen Shot Below)



Second lets get the settings correct. Go ahead and click "Tools". Then click "Settings...". (Screen Shot Below)



When the "Settings" screen pops up, in the lower left hand corner. There will be a "Default" button. Go ahead and click that button. (Screen Shot Below)



After clicking the "Default" button, another screen will pop up asking you "Reset all options to their default values?" . Click "Yes". Then click "OK" . (Screen Shot Below)



After clicking "Yes", it should now take you back to the main DVD Decrypter screen.


DO NOT USE DVD43, ANYDVD, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF COPYRIGHT PROTECTION BYPASSING SOFTWARE!!! IT WILL ONLY CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH DVD DECRYPTER, AND YOUR RIPPING PROCESS WILL FAIL!! ALL YOU NEED IS THE LATEST VERSION OF DVD DECRYPTER, WHICH IS VERSION 3.5.4.0 AS OF RIGHT NOW!
