I have to move some old dvd collections into storage as part of my spring cleaning. A few weeks ago I made a backup of a dvd in a two disc set. I recently tried again today, using the same program, burner, and dvd backup program, and it made a coaster. But here's the catch. It burned on a dvd+rw. My only problem is that I have no more dvd+rws and it will only play on one of my dvd players. If somebody would give me any pointers on how to get my computer to make a backup onto a dvd+r, it would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure its the same media or the same brand? Media ID matters, brand is bulls*hit. See media quality in my sig for an explanation.
Also, if you have done this before, your first question becomes a bit moot, don't you think?

Here are the specifics:
I am using a usb connection. It gets detected, and it says blank disc when i turn it on and put a disc in. I have been using many discs and programs.
All of the programs and discs haved worked before, so I am positive that It isn’t them that is the problem. I also know that the burner, discs, and programs work because I just recently burned movies using them at my friend’s house. For some reason, the burner suddenly stopped burning dvds and I made too many coasters. Therefore, I bought a pack of DVD+RWs. They work perfectly in my burner.
However, I intended to use them as tests to see if the burner worked, and it still doesn’t burn DVD+Rs. DVD+Rs are the only thing that work in my xbox, and I have about 100 of them, so I need to know how to burn them. Copy protection is not the issue. I know this for two reasons.
1. I have successfully burned about 150 movies, and now I cannot burn three in a row. What are the chances?
2. two of the three movies I am trying to burn are from disc sets that I have successfully burned.

Hey, that's pretty cool.
Anyway, I still have a lot of blank DVD+Rs that I do not want to waste. I also want to keep my xbox. The issue isn't my xbox playing DVD+RWs; the issue is not being able to burn dvds to DVD+R (which are cheaper and easier to get).
Thanks for the help so far, but I would really like to get to the bottom of this.Comment
